Our Values ... continued
Evangelism and Church Planting
The basic commitment of the Assemblies of God is to fulfil the Great Commission of Jesus Matt 28:19-20, Mark 16:15-20. Within Australia, this began in the 1920s with courageous evangelism often conducted under persecution from both the unsaved community and religious groups. Since the early 1970s, there has been a major new commitment to evangelism and church planting with significant fruitfulness.
World Missions
The evangelistic fervor of the Assemblies of God has never been confined to Australia. In the minutes of the first Assemblies of God Conference, there is a record of missionaries being sent to other nations. Today our Australian Movement supports missionaries in many countries as well as cooperative ministries being conducted with the Assemblies of God of other nations. The AOG has embarked on a forward thrust into the nations during the 1990s called "the Decade of Harvest" and is highly committed to reaching other nations.
Equipping and Mobilising Believers
The Assemblies of God believes in the "priesthood of all believers" rather than in a hierarchical structure of exclusive ministers. As a result, training of believers in the local assemblies and opportunities for service and ministry is the usual expression of our churches. Many of the assemblies operate night-time Bible School programs, weekend seminars or other forms of training in order to equip their members for effective local ministry. Also, State Departments play a key role in both focusing the attention of churches on specific issues and providing training and support.
